An indictment on our claims to take care of the best interests of children

http://www.smh.com.au/national/juvenile-detainees-shocking-histories-20110411-1db5e.html

This report demonstrates that children imprisoned in NSW are among the most disadvantged.
What a damning indictment on our claims to put the interests of children first! And how contradictory are Greg Smith's comments - last week he was advocating locking more children up for graffiti offences!
Juvenile justice institutions are just preparatory schools for prison. Address the social probelms which got these kids to where they are, don't punish them further.

In the news by Karen Franklin PhD: Good news on young criminals

Our new Attorney General show his true colours already

Didn't take long for Greg Smith to start the law and order auction he professes to abhor. Already he has flagged mandatory life sentences for police killings and now he is advocating imprisoning young people for graffiti!~Dsepite the evidence that locking young people uip only prepares them for further imprisonment and that the vast majority of them will desist, not escalate their offending. Good one Greg, now we know where you really stand!
